Student Travel Support
Students at U.S. universities may be awarded support from USNC URSI for travel to the 2012 National Radio Science Meeting. Starting in 2011, USNC-URSI may limit the number of students who are awarded travel support based on the availability of funds. Students applying for support will be required to report how many times they have previously received travel support to attend the NRSM in Boulder, and on what years. Priority will be given to those who have received previous student travel support the fewest number of times. To be eligible to receive travel support, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be the first author and presenter of a paper accepted for presentation at the 2012 National Radio Science Meeting to be held January 4-7, 2012 in Boulder, Colorado.
- Be a full-time student for a graduate degree at a U.S. university as of September 23, 2011.
- Submit a complete application for travel support through the abstract submission web page by the deadline of September 23, 2011. Before you enter your abstract, click "Student Travel Support Application" to display the application. After filling out all information, click "Submit" at the bottom of the page.
-
After the award has been decided, sign the 2012 USNC-URSI Student Awards Memo and e-mail it to the National Academies to agree to the terms and conditions of the award.
The travel support will be in the form of a fellowship grant award from the National Academies (NAS) in Washington, DC. This award is intended to defray travel expenses to attend the 2012 National Radio Science Meeting to be held January 4-7, 2012 in Boulder, Colorado. The award amount is $600 for students at universities outside of the state of Colorado; otherwise, it is a smaller amount depending on the distance from Boulder, CO. The following terms and conditions are applicable to this award:
- Awardees will still be required to pay the student registration fee to attend the meeting.
- If traveling by air, each awardee must comply with the Fly America Act when making travel arrangements. Funds spent in violation of the Fly America Act as determined by NAS are unallowable and may need to be repaid.
- All awardees must contact Ms. Lina Stankute-Alexander at LSAlexander@nas.edu immediately upon learning that he/she cannot attend the meeting so that appropriate repayment arrangements can be made.
Questions regarding student travel support should be addressed to Prof. Danilo Erricolo of University of Illinois at Chicago at erricolo@ece.uic.edu.
